Orange County superintendent of schools Bill Habermehl confirmed that all public high school football games scheduled for the weekend were postponed today.

The superintendent met via conference call for about 45 minutes this morning with 12 district and three high school district superintendents to discus the possibility of postponing events.

“After everybody shared their (their individual situations), it was a collective decision,” Habermehl said. “It was a tough decision, but there was no way we wanted to jeopardize a child’s health.”

The postponements go into effect immediately and last through Sunday.

The group will meet Monday to make a further assessment.

According to Habermehl, the superintendents decided to make a decision right away and not wait “minute-by-minute” to decide.

“It was a very tough decision,” he said.
