The freshman Hawks lost a hard fought game to Segerstrom 13-7. The Jaguars scored first capitalizing on a LH turnover in the first quarter. Segerstrom drove 54 yards and scored on an 11 yard run. After the kick off and a 5 yard penalty, the Hawks scored on an electrifying 80 yard pass from Connor Landberg to Andrew Whitt. Whitt caught the pass at the LH 40 yard line and outraced the defense to the end zone. The PAT by Bradford Runyon was good tying the score at 7-7. In the second quarter, a LH turnover gave the ball to Segerstrom. The LH defense played tough but the Jaguars scored on a 1 yard run. The PAT was blocked giving the Jaguars a 13-7 lead. After the kick off, the Hawks moved the ball deep into Segerstrom territory. The big play was a 50 yard double pass. Landberg passed to Kyle Siu-Leiatau who passed it to Sean Mackey racing over the middle. The Hawks could not put the ball into the end zone and turned the ball over on downs. The Hawks got another chance to score just before halftime. An interception by Miles Gastil gave the Hawks the ball at Segerstrom's 35 yard line. After a nice 15 yard run by Kai Kanno, the Hawks had the ball inside the 20 yard line. However, a turnover ended the Hawks' threat. The first half ended with the Hawks down 13-7. The second half started with the teams exchanging punts. The Hawks got the ball and moved it to mid-field thanks to a 26 yard pass from Landberg to Gastil. The drive stalled and the Hawks had to punt. The Hawks got the ball back with 2:30 left to play but were unable to score. The final score was 13-7. The Hawks defense played great. They had several sacs and tackles for loss. Gastil lead the way with his interception and a fumble recovery. The offense showed some big play capabilities. RB's Kai Kanno and Alex Salera lead the running game. The Hawks play the El Toro Chargers next Thursday at El Toro HS.
