After victories by the Varsity and Freshman teams the JV Hawks completed the series against the Woodbridge Warriors with a comfortable 30-14 win at Hawk Stadium this afternoon.
After the kick off QB Spain led the Hawk offense to the red zone on the initial drive but they could not make the breakthrough and Makin stepped up on 4th down for the field goal. 3-0 Hawks. On the next warrior drive after a long completion the warriors found themselves with first and 10 at the Hawk 15 yard line. On second down an attempted pass to the outside was intercepted by Valenstein at the 10 yard line. A key block by Vorsheck at the 40 cleared the way and it was all Valenstein from there for the touch down. Makin made the extra point. 10-0 Hawks at the end of the first.
In the second quarter the defense again came up big with an interception by Marino on the 37yd line. On the ensuing drive QB Tereschuk aired out a 40 yarder to Valenstein for the catch in the end zone. A fumbled snap on the point after attempt left the score 16-0 Hawks midway through the second. The Warriors were unable to make a dent in a stout Hawk defense so the offense would get the ball again late in the second. Tereschuk went again to Valenstein for the 30 yard completion to set up a first and ten at the Warrior 13 yard line. On second and ten Tereschuk completed to Bolhagen deep in the end zone. Makin made the extra point and the Hawks led 23-0 at the half.
The defense opened the third as they had finished the second. A crushing tackle by Vandal had the Warriors facing into a 4th and 14 at their own 26. The punt was blocked by Wright and Taylor recovered the ball in the end zone for the touchdown. Makin again made extra point and the Hawks led 30-0 with 9 mins to go in the third. The Warriors came back on their next drive and drove for the score and the point after . Hawks 30 Warriors 7 with 6.04 to go in the third. Spain led the Hawks downfield with a 20 yard completion to Martindale and 10 yard toss to Nassif. The 30 yard attempt was just out of the reach of Moore at the 15 yard line and the Hawks were forced to punt. A broken tackle saw the Warrior running back break free and sprinting for the end zone but a saving tackle by Helmuth at the Hawk 40 prevented the Warrior score and the third period would end with the Hawks ahead 30-7.
The Warriors started the fourth in good field position at the Hawk 14. On third and 4 they completed to the end zone. A successful PAT made the score Hawks 30 Warriors 14. On the next drive on second and 10 at the Hawk 43 Vorsheck found the opening and ran 35 yards to the Warrior 22. The next play saw the Warriors intercept and end the drive but they were unable to add to their score. Hawks win 30-14.
