The freshmen Hawks extended their winning streak

Posted Friday, October 24, 2008 by Joe Thrasher
The freshmen Hawks extended their winning streak to four games and are 2-0 in league after a 35-18 victory of the University Trojans.
The Hawks opened the game kicking off to the Trojans.  On the game's third play, Joey Thrasher tackled University's QB who sustained a neck injury.  The game was stopped for a half-hour as the UHS player was being attended to.  Word is the injury is not severe.  After the game resumed, University punted.  Starting at their own 30 yard line, the Hawks went 70 yards in just four plays.  QB Connor Landberg connected with Miles Gastil for a 59 yard TD pass.  The PAT by Bradford Runyon was good giving the Hawks a quick 7-0 lead.  University fumbled on their possession.  The fumble was recovered by Ryan DeClark at the UHS' 40 yard line.  A 13 yard pass from Landberg to Nicholas Harrison put the Hawks inside the 10 yard line.  Two plays later, Kai Kanno scored a TD on a 2 yard run.  The PAT was good.  On the ensuing kickoff, Alex Salera forced a fumble with a big hit.  The fumble was recovered by DeClark at the Trojans' 24 yard line.  On the next play, Landberg hit Andrew Whitt with a 24 yard TD pass.  The PAT was good.  The first quarter ended with the Hawks up 21-0.  The Hawks' defense forced another UHS fumble which was recovered by DeClark (again) at the UHS 15 yard line.  The Hawks were set to strike again but a penalty and a sack forced the Hawks to turn the ball over on downs.  The Hawks "D" forced a University punt after a three and out.  The Hawks then marched the ball 55 yards in 10 plays scoring on Landberg's 1 yard QB sneak.  The PAT made the score at halftime 28-0.
The Hawks opened the second half with a 50 yard kickoff return by Salera.  The Hawks appeared to be heading for another score but a fumble ended the drive.  University advanced the fumble 40 yards to the Hawks' 18 yard line.  They scored three plays later on a 1 yard TD run.  A 2-point PAT run was no good.  The Hawks fumbled again on their next possession.  The fumble was returned 25 yards for a TD.  The 2-point PAT try was no good.  After an interception and an exchanged of punts, UHS got the ball at their 40 yard line.  They scored four plays later on a 20 yard TD run.  Another 2-point PAT try was stopped by the Hawks but the Trojans had closed the score to 28-18.  The Hawks' offense responded with a nine play 61 yard drive to seal the game.  The drive was highlighted by a 15 yard run by Landberg and runs by Kanno of 10 & 12 yards.  Kanno capped the drive with a 1 yard TD run.  The PAT was good giving the Hawks a 35-18 lead with 3:25 to play.  The Hawks forced University to punt on their next possession.  The Hawks then ran out the clock for the victory.
The Hawks play the Beckman Patriots next WEDNESDAY (Oct 29) @ LHHS.  Game time is 3:15.
