JV Routs University, completes the sweep

This game was pretty much settled in the first quarter as the JV Hawks put on their most convincing display yesterday in a rout of University at Hawk Stadium.

On the initial play of the first period we saw a double pass from Spain to Murray and back to Spain who took off from the 10 yard line down the open field on a 65 yard run to the Trojan 25 before being tackled to the ground. On the ensuing drive Spain found Martindale who had broken free of his marker and ran for the score. 6-0 Hawks. The Trojans initial drive was interrupted by Gastil on a fumble recovery and the Hawks again found themselves with a first and 10 at the Trojan 30. A 20 yard completion from Spain again to Martindale produced another TD. After a false start penalty on University the Hawks went for the 2pt conversion. A key block by Lasutschinkow opened the door for Vorsheck to score. 14-0 Hawks. The Trojans tried again. This time their pass attempt was intercepted by Valenstein at the 30 who ran it back for the TD. After a snap behind Spain and some quick hands to set the ball Makin made the extra point. 21-0. The Trojans fumbled again on the next drive. Garcia and Tereschuck recovered setting up the Hawks at the Trojan 25. . This time Spain kept it on the ground and Vorsheck completed runs for 10, 6, 7 and 7 again for the TD. Makin again converted the PAT. Hawks 28 Trojans 0 at the end of the first.

University could not get it going. On the Hawk kick off that started Q2 the Trojans fumbled at their own 5 yard line recovered by the Hawks. On first and goal Spain on the keeper found the corner for the TD. Makin was solid on the PAT. 35-0. The Trojans again fumbled the kick off setting up the Hawks with a first and 10 at the Trojan 14. This led to a 30 yard Hawk field goal by Makin. 38-0. The Hawk defense continued to frustrate and interrupt the Trojans following drives. A blocked pass on 4th down turned the ball over at the Hawk 33. The Hawks drive ended in a punt. A face mask penalty would advance the Trojans to first and 10 at their own 44 yard line with 10 seconds to go. A blocked pass by Nofsringer ended the threat. Hawks 38 Trojans 0 at the half.

The half time talk seemed to work for the Trojans whose opening drive in the third led to a TD and PAT. 38-7 Hawks. On the Trojan kick off Marino received, avoided the tackles and ran for the touch down. The snap was high and behind but Spain pulled it down for Makin to make the point after. 45 - 7 Hawks. The Trojans turned the ball over on the next drive. The Hawks though did not capitalize and were forced to punt on 4th down, The snap was high and over the head of Tereschuk who was forced to recover and scramble and kick on the run. The 3rd quarter ended Hawks 45 Trojans 7.

The Trojan offense could not get it going in the 4th. A sack by Nofsringer in the back field forced a 4th down punt setting up a Hawk drive at their own 44. Jeffs scored on his second 25 yard run of the drive. Makin again converted the point after. The final few minutes of the game saw the Hawk defense continue to frustrate the Trojans. Another sack by Nofsinger and tackles by Wright and Berry stopped any Trojan progress as the clock expired.

Final Score Hawks 52 Trojans 7

The JV Hawks move to 4 and 3 on the season, 1 and 1 in League play. They face Beckman at Beckman HS next Friday afternoon at 3.15.
