The Freshmen Hawks suffered their first league lost on Wednesday losing to the Beckman Patriots 17-0. The Hawks opened the game driving the ball from their own 23 yard line to inside the Beckman 25 in just five plays. However, a fumble ended the scoring chance. The drive was highlighted by a 16 yard run by Kai Kanno and 28 yard pass from Connor Landberg to Sean Mackey. Beckman then marched down the field and had a first down at the LH 10 yard line. The Hawks' defense stepped up and held the Patriots to a field goal. The Hawks went three and out and punted on their next possession. On Beckman's second play, a short pass turned into a 56 yard TD giving Beckman a 10-0 lead. Beckman forced another LH punt and got the ball back at the LH 41 yard line. With just over a minute to play in the first half, Beckman completed a 27 yard pass putting the ball on the 1 yard line. They scored one play later on a one yard TD run. LH's next possession resulted in an interception. With the ball on the LH 41 yard line, Beckman tried for another score but the Beckman pass was intercepted by Riley Tendler. The first half ended with Beckman ahead 17-0.
The second half was a defensive struggle with neither team mounting any significant scoring chances. The Hawks defense forced Beckman to punt three times. The LH offense moved the ball twice into Beckman territory but a punt and an interception off a double pass play ended those drives. A couple of highlight plays were a 19 yard pass/catch from Landberg to Mackey and 24 yard pass play from Landberg to Miles Gastil. Thefinal score was 17-0 Beckman.
The "B" period was highlighted by a 15 yard run by Steven Sprecher and a 21 yard TD pass from Sprecher to Nicholas Harrison.
The Hawks will try for their third league win next Thursday (11/6) against the Irvine Vaqueros at Irvine High School. Game time is 3:15.
