Laguna Hills JV Hawks 13 - 34 San Juan Hills Stallions

The JV Hawks lined out for their final game of the season against the SJH Stallions at Hawk Stadium Thursday with their home unbeaten record on the line. San Juan Hills elected to receive the ball from the kick off but were unable to keep their initial drive alive after a third down sack by Gastil forced the 4th down punt. A fumbled snap saw the kicker scramble and delay his kick long enough for Nofsinger to sack him and turn the ball over on the Stallions 8 yard line. On the first offensive play for the Hawks Spain handed off to Vorsheck who took it to the house after a key block by Lasutschinkow created the opening. San Juan Hills did just enough to disrupt the PAT attempt by Makin. 6-0 Hawks. The Hawks again disrupted the San Juan Hills offense with an interception by Valenstein on the SJH 38 yard line. On the second Hawk offensive play Spain lateraled to Murray who threw deep to the open Valenstein who ran it for the score. Makin made the point after. 13-0 Hawks. Little did we know then that the Hawks offense would be shut down from here on.

San Juan Hills seemed stunned into action. On the ensuing Hawk kick off they received the ball on their own 1 yard line and ran it 99 yards for the TD and PAT. 13-7 Hawks. The next offensive drive for the Hawks brought up a punt attempt. A high snap over Tereschuk prevented him from making the kick and the Stallions got the ball at the Hawk 18. They went for the score on their first play but Helmuth was there to make the interception in the end zone. Vorsheck on a 32 yard run moved the chains out to the 45 yard line to give the Hawks some breathing room but the offense could not keep it going. A Tereschuk punt to the SJH 4 yard line was the last play of the quarter. LH Hawks 13 SJH Stallions 7

The second quarter started with San Juan Hills at their own 4 yard line. They pounded their way up the middle on play after play eking out 4 and 5 yards at a time. After almost 6 minutes of play they had advanced to the Hawks 5 yard line but a fumble recovered by Marino ended their progress. On the next San Juan Hills drive despite backfield tackles by Gastil and Martindale the Stallions were not to be denied. The point after attempt was blocked and the score was tied 13-13. SJH unsuccessfully attempted the on-side kick but LH recovered at their own 36. Tereschuk led the offense by ground (Vorsheck for 14 yards and Marino for 19) to the Stallions 31 yard line but an interception ended the drive. Lasutschinkow made a key tackle on the 51 yard line after the interception to prevent a score. On the next play Helmuth came up with his second interception of the game on the Hawks 16 yard line to effectively end the threat and the half with the score tied Hawks 13 Stallions 13.

The Hawks received the ball to begin the second half. A fumbled snap by Spain was recovered by SJH who scored off the ensuing drive to take the lead 20-13. The Hawks could not get regain their opening form on offense as successive penalties for holding (10 yards) and a false start (5 yards) set them up for long yardage that they could not achieve and so had to punt. For the second time this game San Juan Hills received the kick and returned it for the score. SJH made the PAT to take the score to 27-13 in favor of the Stallions. Spain lateraled to Valenstein to pick up 7 yards to open the next drive but incompletes to Helmuth and Martindale and a sack brought the drive to an end. Nofsinger again made the tackle in the backfield to force the Stallions to punt bringing an end to the third quarter with the Hawks trailing the Stallions 13-27.

Tereschuk opened the 4th with a lateral to Murray which he received back and ran the ball out to the 40 yard line. Successive runs by Vorsheck of 20 and 18 yards moved the Hawks to the Stallions 22 yard line. An incomplete to Murray followed by an incomplete to Martindale saw the Hawks turn the ball over. The Stallions could not advance and the Hawks got the ball at the 27 yard line after the Stallions failed to convert a 4th down. Tereschuk threw to Valenstein in the end zone but was intercepted. The Stallions drove for an additional TD and PAT in the dying minutes of the game. With 2.25 left on the clock the Hawk offense had one last try. Vorscheck ran for 30 and 11 yards to the Stallions 42 but time ran out on a spirited Hawk effort. Final score JV Hawks 13 SJH Stallions 34.
