Laguna Hills is undefeated and in the Southern Division semifinals largely because of its athleticism. The Hawks also have that great asset that goes beyond talent – team camaraderie.
Hanging around the Laguna Hills team a few minutes after its victory over Irvine a couple of weeks ago, it was easy to sense the closeness among the players.
“It is very much of a family-type of team,” Laguna Hills coach Bruce Ingalls said. “You don’t always get that on a team.”
Team unity creates perseverance, which the Hawks needed two weeks ago when they beat Artesia of Lakewood, 17-9, in the first round.
That was a big challenge for the Hawks. They were coming off of a rare Week 10 bye before that first playoff game.
In the second round, they rolled to a 41-7 victory over Santiago and now face perhaps the best team they will play thus far in 2008, Norwalk, in the semifinals Friday at Laguna Hills.
